Activities

RIM

The “Rim” is an area about 7 miles up the Loco Valley. It overlooks three states and as you can see by the photo taken by Winston Boyer, former owner of Boyer YL, the views are stunning.

We are happy to host sundowners at the rim for you and your friends and family. Weather permitting we can also host a real cowboy BBQ!

HIKING

Boyer YL Ranch borders BLM land and the Medicine Bow National Forest. Wake up and take an easy 1.5-mile hike along the Savery Creek running through the property. For a more adventurous walk, take in 6 miles up the dugway. This path was built by hand by Jock Boyer’s grandfather and a team of horses. It traverses the Rim Plateau with a little scramble down one of the many saddles, across the Savery Creek and back to the YL. We have many hikes you can download depending on your fitness level, amount of time and if you want to do an overnight.

Kimberly Coats, the owner of The YL Ranch, can organize group hikes or a private hike through the generally untravelled private land.

CYCLING

There are gravel roads, ORV roads, and some single track for all of you cycling enthusiasts!  Three of our most popular routes can be found on our Battle of the Gravel Event page with GPS downloads. They range from 21, 58 and 95 miles.

For road cycling fans one of the most gorgeous sections of road in Wyoming is WY-70. You can start on the tarmac in Savery and ride approximately 32 miles to the Battle Pass Continental Divide going from 6,400′ up to 9,500′. We currently do not have bikes for rent, but we know most of you cyclists prefer your own rig anyway!

If you would like a guide we can also provide one for you.

FISHING & HUNTING

The Savery Creek runs right through the Boyer YL Ranch. You can fish for almost 5 miles up the river as it is our land and public land.

You can purchase your fishing license at the local Stage Stop grocery or online at the Wyoming Game and Fish website.

If you’re interested in lodging during hunting season please email us at boyerylranch@gmail.com

TESTIMONIAL

One of our recent guests described her fishing experience at the YL

“I was inspired to visit Boyer YL Ranch after watching a video posted by the gentleman from FlyFishFood casting hoppers onto Savery Creek and catching a series of rambunctious rainbow trout. Hoping to do some of the same myself, I stopped by the ranch with my fly rod and basically had the time of my life. The ranch is nestled a minute walk from the creek in a place so scenic it could inspire Thoreau. If you’re looking for a place to revel in the beauty of nature, this is the place. If you are looking for a luxury experience, you’ll find one here in it’s rawest and most natural form. It’s not a resort with marble floors and Egyptian cotton sheets, but between the quiet of the canyon and the gentle rustle of a creek teeming with rainbow trout you’d be hard-pressed to imagine a more blissful retreat from daily life.”
